“Montreal is the Third Largest Porn-Producing City in the World.” Medias declare (way) too often this catchy sentence, but is it really true? Porn Valley Media seems to doubt that in an article they wrote about Quebec’s porn industry. So we had to ask ourselves: where’s Quebec on the porn map?

Montreal, L.A.’s little sister

Even if the metropolis shelters many important XXX businesses’ headquarters, it’s wrong to make the assumption that most of their movies are really shot there.

Montreal offices for big X players

MindGeek, the owner of Brazzers, Digital Playground, Reality Kings, Twistys, Pornhub and YouPorn, to name only a few, has, in Montreal only, over 325 employees! But, in reality, most movies are shot on the American West-Coast. Therefore, Montreal only has a promotional, marketing and hosting role for these companies.

Porn Valley media candidly says that production-wise, Montreal — or Canada, for that matter — isn’t even in the same galaxy as a city like L.A.. It’s like comparing Michael Jordan to a quadriplegic baby. But hey, shake what ya momma gave ya, right?

Even if this comparison isn’t completely untrue, we have to understand that we are comparing here a brand new industry (Montreal) with a more mature one (USA). Quebec started doing porn 25 years ago while Americans have been at it since the ‘60s!

Quebec based productions shot in Montreal

The reality of 3X movies shot in Montreal therefore applies more to smaller businesses like AD4X, Québec Productions Je viens and of course, Pegas Productions. All these Quebec-based production companies are shooting movies in the metropolis, with local actresses, for a local public! But, this division of the porn industry is in full bloom and Pegas is already looking towards the future by orienting it’s productions to reach an international public!

Double standards

Comparing Montreal porn to L.A.’s is quite a lame one! It’s like comparing the Quebec Games with the Olympics. We have to take things into perspective and stop comparing apples and oranges… We have to keep in mind that Quebec porn movies have not the same sales potential that American movies have, with a market nearly 50 times smaller!

Since Quebec has a unique culture and language, it gives us a special flavor! But, on the downside, it also causes us problems… Being small creates less movie opportunities for actresses, so less chances to get a long and fruitful career!

Montreal pornstars with a place in the sun

Even if few Quebec porn actresses are famous on an international level, there are some exceptions and we bet you know who they are! We are of course talking about Pegas actresses like Vandal Vyxen, Samantha Ardente and the Lane Sisters who all put the “star” in “pornstar”!

The gorgeous Vyxen Steel also has a nice share of the US market. And American producers are also taking interest! Back in August 2015, James Deen shot in Quebec, just like big names such as Ed Powers, Peter North and Rocco Siffredi did in the past!

So even if the general opinion on Montreal’s porn industry is that there’s a lot more work on our plate to reach international summits, it’s not because we are small that we cannot see big!
